Street Critique for October 3rd - Hilary Kramer

posted by Jaime George, Web Producer at 6:14 PM on 10/03/07

Photo of Hilary KramerWe have no plans to recycle NBR anchor Paul Kangas' latest interview with Hilary Kramer, Personal Finance Editor at AOL and author of Ahead of the Curve, but we might want to. After all, the topic of this "Street Critique" is recycling. Hilary says companies can improve their margins by figuring out how to use their waste products. And, those improving margins make them attractive plays. She points to the stocks of four companies that could benefit from a push to recycle, particularly efforts to turn waste into energy.

Do you think recycling is a long-term play?

posted by Jaime George, Web Producer at 5:00 PM on 09/05/07

Photo of Hilary KramerOn tonight's program, NBR Anchor Jeff Yastine (filling in for Paul Kangas) interviews "Street Critique" guest Hilary Kramer, Market Strategist and Personal Finance Editor at AOL. Jeff asks Hilary if she thinks an interest rate cut is likely. He also asks her if the economy could be headed to recession, and she says it is a possibility. And, like some of our other, recent Market Monitor and Street Critique interview guests, she ties that possibility for recession to the state of consumer spending. The interview wraps up with Hilary's stock picks. This time she's got four picks of companies that should weather a recession well. The picks include a waste management firm, a power company, and two international firms.

Do you agree with Hilary's take on the state of recession? Are their other recession-proof sectors you're currently looking to invest in?
