General Questions

Why do the video pages look strange?
If you're having problems viewing our video pages or other parts of our site, you could be running an older version of your web browser. We recommend you upgrade to the latest versions of Firefox, Safari (for Mac users only), Opera or Internet Explorer 6 or later. We also recommend you enable Javascript.

Flash Player Questions (for visitors with high-speed connections)

How can I watch video in full screen?
You should see an option for full screen mode in the lower left hand region of the player. If you don't see it, you may need to upgrade to version 10 of Adobe's Flash Player.

Why do I only get audio, not video?
You might be able to resolve this problem by upgrading to version 10 of Adobe's Flash Player. However, if there is an interruption in the flow of data anywhere between our video server and your computer, you may get an incomplete picture and just receive the audio track of the program. Unfortunately there's not much we can do about this problem -- our best suggestion is to wait a while and try again.

Why is there so much video buffering?
Many points between our video server and your computer could be slowing the process down. Our server won't serve you the video stream unless it has sufficient bandwidth, so it's quite hard to tell where the problem lies. Our recommendation would be to wait and try again later. We apologize for the inconvenience.

How do I move to different parts of a video clip?
There are two ways to move through a video clip:

  1. You can click and hold down the fast forward and rewind buttons that live just below the video image. While you hold down the buttons, you will shuttle forward or backward through a program in small increments. Simply stop holding down the button to have video resume play at its normal speed. The fast forward and rewind buttons work both while a program is downloading and after it has finished downloading. (You can gauge the rate of download by watching the black bar below the video image. The bar will slowly turn gray from left to right as the video downloads into your computer's memory cache.)
  2. You can move the yellow scrub bar that lives below the video image to any point in the clip. PLEASE NOTE: The scrub bar only works after the video has downloaded onto your computer. (You can gauge the rate of download by watching the black bar below the video image. The bar will slowly turn gray from left to right as the video downloads into your computer's memory cache.)

QuickTime Player Questions (for visitors with dialup connections)

Why can't I see any video at all?
You may not have QuickTime Player installed. If you are a PC user, go to Apple's QuickTime site to download the player.

Why can't I see the latest edition of NBR?
If you are seeing an older edition of the program, you may need to delete the temporary files in your computer's memory cache. To do this in Internet Explorer, follow these steps:

  1. Open Internet Explorer. Select "Tools" and then "Internet Options." Look for the option to delete temporary files and select "Delete."
  2. Return to the "Streaming Videos" page on the NBR website. When you get to the page, hold down the SHIFT key and hit your browser's REFRESH button.
  3. Watch the program. Your computer should now be streaming the latest edition.

Why is the video and audio quality so poor?
Dialup connections can only handle smaller video files. Since our program is nearly 30 minutes long, it is quite large. To make it a manageable size for streaming via dialup connections, we must lower the quality.
