THE MARKETS ARE CLOSED, BUT NIGHTLY BUSINESS REPORT IS "OPEN FOR BUSINESS"

Television's Longest Running Daily Business Program Observes Martin Luther King Jr. Day With a Special on Diversity in Corporate America

New York (December 7, 2005) -- In observance of Martin Luther King Jr. Day, Emmy winning Nightly Business Report -- the most-watched and longest running daily business news program on television -- will air Open for Business, a special focusing on diversity in corporate America, on January 16, 2005, instead of their regularly scheduled programming. The special will feature companies in the areas of technology, retail and food service.

In the technology field, NBR will profile Xerox, company with a long history of commitment to diversity, and one of the few Fortune 500 companies to have a female CEO, Anne Mulcahy. Mulcahy will be interviewed -- along with Phil Harlow, Xerox's Chief Diversity and Employee Advocacy Officer -- about how the company benefits from a diverse workforce.

The retail field features Seattle based Nordstrom, a department store chain that prides itself on its diverse workforce, boasting a higher than average percentage of female and African-American managers and workers in its industry.

Denny's is profiled in the food service arena. After a discrimination lawsuit that raised its profile in a way it might not have wanted, Denny's worked to overhaul its corporate approach to diversity, and has now received national recognition as an excellent example of a turnaround in this area.

There will also be interviews with academic experts in the field of diversity. Dr. Bernard Anderson, the Whitney M.Young, Jr. Professor of Management at the Wharton School, University of Pennsylvania is a labor economist who has held leadership positions in academia, philanthropy, and public service. He also served as Assistant Secretary of the U. S. Department of Labor in the Clinton Administration. From Harvard, Dr. David Thomas is Senior Associate Dean, Director of Faculty Recruiting and H. Naylor Fitzhugh Professor of Business Administration.

Created in 1979, Nightly Business Report is television's longest-running daily business news program on broadcast or cable. It is produced by NBR Enterprises/WPBT2/Miami and is distributed by the Public Broadcasting Service to more than 225 public television stations across the country, reaching about 90% of U.S. television households. NBR is underwritten nationally by A.G. Edwards and Franklin Templeton. Additional funding for China coverage was provided by a grant from the Freeman Foundation.
