Nightly Business Report Examines the War on Terror’s Impact on Business and the Economy
New York (August 14, 2006) –Nearly five years after 9/11 made terrorism a household word in the United States, Nightly Business Report will present “Risk Factor”: a look at the business and economic impact of the Global War on Terror. The special program will air in NBR’s usual timeslot on PBS on Labor Day, Monday, September 4. It will be hosted by co-anchors Paul Kangas and Susie Gharib, and will feature reports from the staff of the Emmy-Award winning series.
“Recent events have underscored the need to work and travel with the
knowledge that a new reality has emerged nationally and globally ,” said
NBR Executive Editor Linda O’Bryon. She added, “the era of
anti-terrorism has profound implications for the business community at large
as well as individuals.”
The program will begin with a report by Correspondent Erika Miller on how the War on Terror has impacted the U.S. economy, stocks, and oil prices. NBR Washington Bureau Chief Darren Gersh will look at the creation of the Homeland Security industry spawned by the war on terror, while Correspondent Jeff Yastine will check out how the war has changed the American travel industry.
The special program will also include an interview with Jules Kroll, the founder of corporate security firm Kroll, Inc. Susie Gharib will also moderate a panel discussion on geo-political risk as an economic factor, while Paul Kangas will talk with stock strategists about how viewers can prepare their portfolios to handle this type of risk.
Created in 1979, Nightly Business Report is television's longest-running daily business news program on broadcast or cable. It is produced by NBR Enterprises/WPBT2/Miami and is distributed by PBS (Public Broadcasting Service) to more than 250 public television stations across the country, reaching about 93% of U.S. television households.
