Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ)
The AHRQ is a division of the U.S. Department of Health & Human Services. The site contains a wealth of information on healthcare in America, including a section geared to consumers.
American Board of Medical Specialties (ABMS)
The ABMS is a not-for-profit group that advances medical education and sets the standards for certifying physicians. The organization's website contains an area where consumers can check to see if their doctors are certified
American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS)
AAAS is a "non-profit organization dedicated to advancing science around the world." Medicine is one of the many topics the association reports on and researches.
American Medical Association (AMA)
The AMA is an organization that advocates for physicians. Two of the website's most interesting features are DoctorFinder and JAMA. DoctorFinder allows patients to search for information about any licensed doctor. JAMA is the Journal of the American Medical Association, which publishes peer-reviewed research findings.
Harvard Health Publications
This website is a service of Harvard Medical School. It offers reports written for consumers on a variety of topics, including wellness and medical advances.
The Joint Commission
The Joint Commission accredits healthcare organizations and programs in the United States. The website's "Quality Check" feature allows consumers to see if specific healthcare organizations meet the Joint Commission's standards.
Medicare
This is the official U.S. government website about Medicare. Here you can find out more about Medicare health and drug plans, find doctors in your area, and even check your enrollment.
Medicare Rights Center
The Medicare Rights Center is an "independent source of health care information and assistance in the United States for people with Medicare." The website offers advice about Medicare from a non-governmental perspective.
National Association of Home Care & Hospice (NAHC)
The NAHC is a "trade association representing the interests and concerns of home care agencies, hospices, home care aide organizations, and medical equipment suppliers." The website offers consumer information about selecting the right home care and hospice providers.
National Committee for Quality Assurance (NCQA)
