American Institute of Stress (AIS)

AIS is a non profit organization that acts "as a clearinghouse for information on all stress related subjects." The organization reports that job stress costs American businesses $300 billion a year.

The Best Places to Work in the Federal Government

The Best Places to Work is produced by the Partnership for Public Service and American University's Institute for the Study of Public Policy Implementation. The site ranks federal agencies performance as employers in a number of categories. This links to the "Work/Life Balance" rankings.

CultureRx

CultureRx is a consulting firm founded by Cali Ressler and Jody Thompson, the team that developed and implemented the the Results-Only Work Environment (ROWE) at Best Buy. Ressler and Thomspon are interviewed in NBR's "Working for Balance" special.

The Families and Work Institute

The Families and Work Institute "is a nonprofit center dedicated to providing research for living in today’s changing workplace, changing family and changing community."

Mayo Clinic

The Mayo Clinic is a not-for-profit medical practice with locations in Minnesota, Florida, and Arizona. This links to an article about stress on the Mayo Clinic website. The article is titled, "Work-Life Balance: Ways to Restore Harmony and Reduce Stress."

"The Morality of Time" (PDF Document)

"The Morality of Time" is a short paper authored by Kathleen Gerson of New York University, the sociology professor Erika Miller interviews in her "BlackBerry Backlash" report. In the paper, Gerson argues that today's time dilemmas should not be attributed "to the values and aspirations of ordinary Americans."

Sloan Work and Family Research Network

The Sloan Work and Family Research Network is located at Boston College. This links to a summary of the "Family-Freindly Workplace" compiled by a faculty member in Boston College's Graduate School of Social Work.

"Work Life Balance, Management Practices, and Productivity"(PDF Document)

This 2006 scholarly paper was published by the Centere for Economic Performance at the London School of Economics. The paper analyzes "data on management and work-life balance practices from 732 medium sized manufacturing firms in the US, France, Germany and the UK."

U.S. Department of Labor

This links to information the Department of Labor offers about the U.S. Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA). The site includes an overview and fact sheets about the law. In addition, it compiles recent news related to FMLA.
