The Blackberry Battle Is Over

Friday, March 03, 2006

SUSIE GHARIB: Good news tonight for people who use Blackberries. A patent settlement late today ended the prospect that service could be turned off for millions of users of those handheld devices. The firm that makes the Blackberry, Research in Motion, reached a deal with NTP, the company that patented the Blackberry`s wireless e-mail system. RIM will pay just over $612 million to NTP and the two companies will sign a licensing pact and immediately cease all legal action against each other. The deal ends years of nasty litigation.
