"Last Word"-Inmates Go Green
Friday, May 29, 2009SUZANNE PRATT: Finally tonight, a story from the "every little bit helps save money in this recession" department. The sheriff of Sandusky County in Ohio has come up with a way to save $75,000 in jail costs. He's making the inmates grow their own food! The prisoners planted an acre and a half of fruits and vegetables earlier this month. The harvest will end up in the jail's kitchens. And it sounds like they could use it, Jeff. This same sheriff already banned pancakes from breakfast to save money.
YASTINE: Every dollar counts. I guess waffles are next.
PRATT: Well, if I could get my kids to eat their vegetables, I'd be happy.
