In addition to reporting on the day's breaking business, economic and market news, Nightly Business Report is scheduled to feature the following:
July 4th
THE MARKETS AT MIDYEAR
A recap of market action in the first half of '08, and a look ahead.
This year's first half gave investors plenty of opportunities -- for nail biting. Big losses by financial companies and the prospect of a recession kept stocks moving steadily downward, until the Federal Reserve moved decisively to lower interest rates and prevent Bear Stearns from failing. Then a spring recovery in stock prices was short-circuited by record rises in oil and other commodities and a big jump in unemployment.
Is relief anywhere in sight? No one can say for sure, but NBR's Independence Day edition, anchored by Paul Kangas and Susie Gharib, will provide the analysis investors need to keep their feed in this market.
July 10th & July 24th
BILL OF HEALTH
Two new reports in this continuing series.
While most fields of medicine have embraced technology, the field of pathology has been slower to adapt. Pathologists have relied on glass slides and microscopes to make diagnoses for more than 125 years. Now, as NBR Correspondent Jeff Yastine reports in the July 10th edition of Bill of Health, a new company is revolutionizing disease detection by bringing pathology into the digital age.
July 14th & July 28th
GET YOUR FINANCES READY FOR RETIREMENT
Two new reports in this year-long series for soon-to-be and recent retirees.
As baby boomers retire, they will need to turn their savings and investments into one of their main sources of income. This month, NBR features two reports on how new retirees should go about making this change. On July 14th, reporter Joe Collum looks at the process of "transitioning" an investment portfolio as one prepares to retire. On July 28th, reporter Connie Hicks examines how to minimize the risks that could threaten a retiree's assets.
Now in its 30th year, Nightly Business Report is seen on more than 250 PBS stations.
