Objectives of Robert Drach's "Basic Timing" Model Portfolio

Bob Drach believes in "market timing." His Basic Timing portfolio follows this investment philosophy.

PORTFOLIO -- BASIC TIMING
This portfolio varies as to the percentage allocation between stocks and cash equivalents. The investment level can range from 0% (no stock positions and fully in cash equivalents) to 100% (fully invested in equities). The maximum number of stock positions is 20. More than one position can be taken in the same issue.

OBJECTIVE: To beat the Standard & Poors 500 Index
This portfolio is independently managed by Robert Drach, and not by Nightly Business Report. It is extremely important to fully understand that this portfolio model is designed to demonstrate aspects of equity investment compared to the performance of the S&P 500 Average in an elemental context. As such, this is not a recommended investment technique. This is not the Time Overlay method which is the primary focus of Drach's books and most other writings. There are more refined, accurate, and profitable techniques than this model which is confined to the relatively simplistic goal of outperforming a singular average. It can not be assumed that any specified position will be profitable or equal past performance. No duplicated publication in any form can properly serve the needs, goals, and resources of the individual investor.
