to a special edition of NBR, Washington Bureau Chief Darren
Gersh explores India's future and its challenges. Part 2 focuses

Also known as the Tata Energy Research Institute, TERI is a non-profit
science and policy research organization headquartered in New
Delhi. This links to a 1997 article titled, "India's water
crisis: avenues for policy and institutional reform."

Halosource is a bioscience firm that provides systems for making
water safe, controling infections, and improving wound healing.
The company has installed its safe water solutions in India. Halosource's

This study is a publication of Oxford University Press India.
It examines governance and development issues in India and includes
a look at the nation's water, sewage, and municipal solid waste

Department of Drinking Water Supply
The Department of Drinking Water Supply is part of India's Ministry
of Rural Developent. The ministry's website offers data about
the country's drinking water situation. In addition, it also offers
resources to assist the various Indian states with their efforts
to improve the quality of their drinking water.

Planning Commission
The Planning Commission of the Government of India determines
priorities for the most efficient utilization of the nation's
resources. The agency's Deputy Chairman, Montek Singh Ahluwalia,
is interviewed in Darren Gersh's report.
- Rainwaterharvesting.org
Rainwaterharvesting.org is the website of the Center for Science
and Environment, a non-governmental organization based in New
Delhi. The group promotes "the revival of tradtional system
of water harvesting." This links to the groups analysis of
the Yamuna River's pollution problems.
- The
World Bank
The World Bank "helps to improve the safety net systems of
developing countries through technical assistance, knowledge dissemination
and direct lending." This links to a World Bank report titled,
"India's Water Economy: Bracing for a Turbulent Future."
- Yamuna
Action Plan
The Yamuna Action Plan is a project of India's Ministry of Environment
& Forests. It is a plan "for water pollution abatement
and conservation of the river Yamuna" in India. The Yamuna
is profiled in Darren Gersh's report.
