challenges for the nation. In this series of reports that leads up
to a special edition of NBR, Washington Bureau Chief Darren
Gersh explores India's future and its challenges. Part 3 looks
at the nation's efforts to use affirmative action to counter discrimination.

CII is a non-governmental, not-for-profit organization that works
to promote the growth of industry in India. In his report, Darren
Gersh interviews the CII's Jamshed Irani.

This book was published by the U.S. Library of Congress in 1995
and is offered in an online version via the Country Studies US
website. All the books on this website were "previously published
in hard copy...as part of the Country Studies/Area Handbook Series
sponsored by the U.S. Department of the Army between 1986 and
1998." This links to the section of India: A Country
Study that discusses the caste system.

Ministry of Commerce & Industry
Indian Commerce Minister Kamal Nath is interviewed in Darren Gersh's
report. Nath is urging Indian businesses to fight discrimination.

Minister of India
This links to the transcript of a speech given by Indian Prime
Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh at the Confederation of Indian Industry's
National Conference on April 18, 2006. In the speech, the Prime
Minster addresses many economic issues, including discrimination
in hiring.
