The U.S. government has injected hundreds of billions of dollars into the economy to counter the effects of financial crisis and recession. Along the way, the government learned it's much more difficult to track the money than to spend it. As part of NBR's "Reviving the Economy: Government Responds" coverage, Stephanie Dhue gets an update on efforts to follow the money.![]()

The Obama Administration estabilished the Recovery.gov website to allow the public to track how stimulus money is spent. As Stephanie Dhue reports, the website still does not offer as much detail about spending as originally planned. - U.S. Government Accountability Office (GAO)
The GAO's "mission is to help improve the performance and assure the accountability of the federal government for the benefit of the American people." This links to a special section of the GAO's website titled, "Following the Money: GAO's Oversight of the Recovery Act." The site includes "bimonthly reviews on how funds are used by selected states and localities." - U.S. Representative Edolphus "Ed" Towns
