Topic: How did chinatown in New York become so strong in the 19th century.

I am doing a research about Chinatown. I am very interested in everything that deals with there stand in the 1920's-40's.How did they become a strong figure as a community in Manhattan? -How they arrive here? -Why out of all the places, New York was the place?-How were they able to keep there life style so segragated?-Why was New Yorkers rushing to escape the city by heading to Chinatown?
