I thanks PBS for the great program about Russia and its history. I know that PBS is currently under attack of all kinds of Ukrainian extremists. I hope PBS would not take those delusions seriously. Those kinds of people would always complain that world does not buy their ridiculous myths about World wide conspiracy against Ukraine. I hope to see the same quality programs from PBS in the future.Long time viewer!Regards,Yevgeniy Chizhikov.

I agree that the three nights of Face of Russia has been a great program. I also respect the opinions of those who have written in this forum from personal and ethnic perspectives. I fear , however that we are seeing the Balkinization of all of eastern Europe and it is reminiscent of the early 20th century. There is a soul in Russia, however you define that ancient nation, which is at risk of annihilation by the gangster capitalism of today. My inherent optimism will not allow me to believe that all of my idealized Rus is gone. This program reinforced that clinging optimism. The good news for Americans is that many chose to watch "Face of Russia" when I'm sure there was a good baseball game on...or a "Three's Company" marathon on Nickolodeon.

I too think it was a great program. I feel it is getting an undeservedly bad rap for minor problems. (Like not announcing the switch from Eastern Slavs to Russians clearly enough.) The third part is a bit disappointing, but only when compared to the first two. At minimum, it presents the traditional view of Russian art as seen from inside Russia.

The goal of the program is to cover Russia (and its ancestor Kievan Rus') only, and art only. Not politics, military conquest or offences against other people. There are plenty of these too, but I think one should give some time and credit to the great things in Russia, not just the bad points.

It is refreshing to see an informative program that presents some of the positive aspects of Russian culture. I have lived extensively in Russia and have been deeply impressed and affected by its amazing artistic, literary, and culture contributions to the world. I am tired of always hearing about corruption, economic crisis, and suffering. While those too are part of life in Russia today, it is a very one-dimisional presentation. What helps give any country soul is its art and creative works. I am dissapointed in the comments regarding misrepresentation of the Ukraine. This is a program about history as seen through art. A program like this presents a side of Russian and Ukrainian culture and art that many viewers may know very little about or may never have seen before. It does not seem to have been intended to describe the history of socio-political relations in the region.

And, might I add, revealing a depth of research seldom found in documentary television. The bits on Gogol were cracking.
