I was disappointed by the choice of movies in the 3rd part. While the segment on Eisenstein is excellent and the one on Paradjanov is good (though small), I was disappointed by inclusion of "Repentance". "Repentance" is, in my opinion, a very bad movie. It is a perfect example of how to follow all the rules and end up with something terrible.

As Patricia Taniashvili pointed out, it is a Georgian movie, and comes out of the wonderful tradition of Georgian films. The other two movies of Tengiz Abuladze I have seen are excellent. I particularly like his "Tree of Desire" -- a masterpiece. Too bad he made the "Repentance".

The last scene ("why should there be a road that does not lead to the temple?") is the corniest, phoniest movie scene I have ever seen. Again, it is all right in theory. But it stinks in the movie. Too bad Mr. Billington took it for something prophetic.

And where is Andrei Tarkovsky? Already forgotten?
