Does any one know how many people were killed in the Russian gulags created in the 1920's. I'm writting a term paper and it would be a huge help. Thanks in advance!

I hardly believe there were any concentration camps in Russia before 1929-1932. The civil war ended in 1924. What is your source of information? It's hard to estimate an accurate victims number. I believe there were thousands of them. As far as I know 'GULAG', which is actually an abbreviation for 'Glavnoye Upravleniye LAGerey', i.e. 'Chief Camps Department', existed till 50's and was dismissed by Khrushchev. Most of the victims were not actually 'killed' but rather died of starvation or hard work. There were no 'Vernichtungslager', i.e. death camps like they existed in Germany during the Nazi period. There's also a lot of people who survived that hell were freed and became well-known and respected. For example Georgiy Zhzhenov, a famous actor and many many others.
