I believe that states should take the lead in teacher education. First
year teachers should be required to go through a residency program,
including input from a college professor, mentor teacher and
administration. This helped me complete my first year with success.
In Oklahoma, it is required that teachers go through this program and
it has proven to be successful, if only looking at me. Good luck to
all you first year teachers! And remember, you can do it and you CAN
love it!!Lisa Short

Harry Wong's Video and Book, "The First Day's of School" is the BEST
teacher preperation ANY teacher, new or experienced, can use.I was
entering the classroom five years ago, nervous, and fresh out of
college with a Bachelors in Education. I should have known it all...I
did not. I was still highly concerned about how to get the classroom
going properly. The video's were the better than ANY class I had taken
in college. The video's show how to set up your classroom the very
first second of the first day through the second week. It's an amazing
video. I recommend these video's to EVERY school district.By the
way...I have NEVER sent any student to the principal's office, never
one discipline problem, and I have maintained one of the most requested
classes at our site.Scott Bailyyou can e'mail atbailyscott@hotmail.comI
now do the training for our new teachers at our site and local
sites...due to the recommendation from my principal..I'm only a fifth
year teacher. O' Yea' the teachers LOVE the training.
