"The true woman will not be exponent of another, or allow another to be such for her. She will be her own individual self... Stand or fall by her own individual wisdom and strength... She will proclaim the `glad tidings of good news' to all women, that woman equally with man was made for her own individual happiness, to develop... every talent given to her by God, in the great work of life."-Susan B. Forum: Not For Ourselves Alone -- Where Are We Now?

I am currently looking at Not For Ourselves Alone for my Women's Studies thesis. I have done much research on the film and I have found this site to be a real help at understanding why Burns and Barnes made the film and why they included or excluded what they did. I am particulary interested in how these men have shaped the history of the women's suffragist movement with their film. I am also interested in how the film was received by viewers. Had you ever heard of Stanton and Anthony? Did you gain a clear understanding of the movement from the film? What did you like or dislike? Did you find anything lacking that you would have liked to have seen included? Do you think the film was too conservative? Conventional? Does it bother you that this film was made by men instead of women? Many of these topics have been raised already, but anymore responses would be helpful to my research. Thank you.
