"The true woman will not be exponent of another, or allow another to be such for her. She will be her own individual self... Stand or fall by her own individual wisdom and strength... She will proclaim the `glad tidings of good news' to all women, that woman equally with man was made for her own individual happiness, to develop... every talent given to her by God, in the great work of life."-Susan B. One of the social factors prompting sharp responses from women, generally referred to as feminism, is unfettered militarism. The current technological frenzy in armaments the world is now witnessing -- from outer space to laboratory simulation of nuclear explosions -- is unsustainable. It falls to women to voice a feminist analysis addressing the militaristic nature of personal, professional, economic and international relations.

I add to this mix: feminism and disarmament. Often in discussions of women's issues, the reality of violence is addressed on a personal level, rarely discussed is international violence and the arms industry which supports it. It is a vicious cycle: institutional violence feeds individual violence, which feeds institional violence. Feminist analysis of global economic drivers is key to disempowering the international arms trade.
