Hi! I'd like to hear just a little more information about your question. Are there certain words or whole phrases that are difficult to understand? Any speech patterns you've noticed? Has your pediatrician voiced concerns? Have you checked into free speech/hearing screening in your area?

My 4 yr old has been in speech therapy for two years. We started with a hearing test (that she passed) and then went for a speech/language evaluation. Look for a Scottish Rites Language Clinic in your area...They are somehow connected to the Shriners. Early detection is very important.

Do you have any suggestions on what I should be doing? I think my son should be more advanced with his speech/vocabulary, but I am not sure if I am over-reacting or not. I only know a few children to compare him to, so how do I know if he has a real problem that I should be addressing or not? Suggestions??

My son is almost 2-1/2 and still makes a lot of sounds, but no distinct words. He communicates well non-verbally, however,I am getting concerned. I often see much younger children speaking in sentences. Has anyone gotten any responses yet.

Hi,I still never heard back about the reply before. I'm wondering if you have concerns about your child's hearing. That can make a huge difference in their speech. There are so many ways to get this assessed. What do you know so far from the doctor? Interested to hear back.Heather

my 3yr old son is hard to understand and has a hard time in a group setting because of it. I run a homedaycare and he is always left out of the play with the other childern. I am concerned this may start to affect his confidence and self-image too. what should I do?

If you want to get outside opinions or help contact your pediatrician for ideas. You can also contact your local elementary school and they will be able to give you information on speech/hearing screenings (usually free) offered in your area. Good luck!

Subject: 2 1/2 not talking yet

I have a 2 1/2 yr old that doesn't talk at all. He say's mommy and daddy and some words when he's in the mood. He's really good in imitating noises and some tunes. I've taken him to his doctor but the doctors say's just give him time. I'm really worried, help!!!

My son is the same way. Only my Doctor put him in a Birth to Three program. Now he is learning sign language. He is able to express himself some. Now I dont get upset trying to fiqure out what he wants and he is less likley to get upset also. We started out with simple things like please and thank you. We moved to more, and help. Now he is more verbal. If we pay attention to him he tells his sister Lub you. Of course he means Love you. his sounds are still mumbled. We have had his hearing checked and everything is fine. But the dr's think something is still wrong. Does anyone have any advice?
