My son will turn 5 in October this year making him eligible to start kindergarden this fall. while his preschool teacher tells me his maturity level and learning level makes him more than ready to start, I am concerned about the middle school years and whether his being one of the youngest in his class will create problem at this time. Any info would be appreciated

I am a kindergarten teacher and we firmly believe that it never hurts to wait another year to start school especially where age is concerned. If his preschool teacher feels he is so ready just think how much more ready and self assured he'll be after another year in preschool. If you have questions about it, contact your local school and ask to speak to a kindergarten teacher. They will be able to tell you about their curriculum, their expectations and their experience with kids starting school young.
