I have a 2 year old son and another one due in November. I want to move my son into a regular bed in plenty of time so he doesn't feel like he's being "pushed" out by the baby. The bed is low enough that he is able to get on and off by himself. He enjoys playing on it and in the room. I've moved all of his clothes and toys, etc. into the new room and I change him in there as well. He just refuses to sleep in the big bed. I'm having a difficult time finding a safety bar to put on the side of the bed because the bed doesn't have a box spring - it's a slat bed. I'm thinking of trying to keep encouraging him to sleep in there, but not forcing him for a couple of weeks, then simply closing the door for him to go to sleep on his own (which he does well now). We always refer to the new room as his "big boy room or big boy bed" and try and make it sound like a special place just for him. Am I doing the right thing? Any ideas?

I think you're doing the right thing! One safety bar that has worked out well for us on ANY kind of bed is the one from Fisher Price that has the two "feet" that slide under the mattress. It provides easy access to the child and folds down without problems. You might want to try it!
