My 4 1/2 year old son just started a prekindergarden class. He recently has noticed there are people of color in the world. He points out people who are different than him and in public makes a big deal out of it. There have been a few very embarassing moments. I've tried talking with him about God's love for everyone. Pointed out how we are all the same (eyes, ears, noses, fingers...). I'm at a loss as what else to do. Is this just a faze he'll get through or is there something else we can do?

Young children notice EVERYTHING! As long as you are being positive in commenting on the differences your child is noticing then he will come through this phase with a very positive outlook on his environment. I teach kindergarten and we spend quite a few days at the beginning of the year talking about how we are all different AND special!
