At the Capitol: New Members

As the 107th Congress moves forward the Online NewsHour will profile new members of Congress and how politics and partisanship affect their agendas. Check here for profiles, updates and more...

A Republican in Labor Country
Melissa Hart is the first Republican to represent Pennsylvania's fourth House district in 18 years, and the first female GOP member elected to the House in the state. A 38-year-old no-nonsense lawyer, she has worked to craft a labor-friendly, fiscally conservative platform for her moderate Western Pennsylvania district.

A Traditional Urban Democrat
An eight-year veteran of the California legislature, Hilda Solis of the Los Angeles-area's 31st Congressional District, has focused on worker rights, Latin American issues and offering a "voice for the voiceless". Her traditional Democratic positions have already led to frustration when dealing with the Republican majority.
