Two years ago, pianist Simone Dinnerstein seized the attention of the classical music world with a debut concert at Carnegie Hall's Weill Recital Hall and a self-produced recording of Bach's "Goldberg Variations" that became a bestseller and made many critics' top lists that year.

Since then she's given numerous recitals around the world and released a recording, titled "The Berlin Concert," featuring works by Bach, Beethoven and contemporary composer Philip Lasser.

Ms. Dinnerstein joined me by phone from her home in Brooklyn, N.Y.:

Listen to Dinnerstein perform Beethoven's Piano Sonata No. 32 in C minor, Op. 111, Maestoso: Allegro con brio e appassionato, From the "The Berlin Concert" recording:

Also from the "The Berlin Concert" recording, Dinnerstein performs J.S. Bach, Goldberg Variations, BWV 988: Variation 13:

Editor's note: For more about Dinnerstein, check out her appearance on WNET's Sunday Arts and NJN's State of the Arts. And thanks to Michael Lawrence Films for use of the above video, taken from "Bach Project."

MEB : What artists say about their art is as interesting and enjoyable as it is to hear, see, or read what they have created. Simone's interview is as enjoyable as her performances, Daniel Handler's delightful interview made my day, every interview with the artists in Art Beat is always enriching.

Inara : Re:Conversation: Pianist Simone Dinnerstein Thanks to Jeffrey Brown for another wonderful interview. His thoughtful interview helps bring out the essence of an artis's approach to his/her work. This is also true of any of the interviews he does on the NewsHour, which I greatly appreciate.
