'The Torment of St. Anthony', Michelangelo Buonarroti, oil and tempera on wood panel, 1487-88 The man who painted the Sistine Chapel was actually young once, copying the works of other masters before he became one himself. The Kimbell Art Museum in Fort Worth, Texas, has just acquired a painting done by Michelangelo Buonarroti from when he was 12 or 13, showing St. Anthony being attacked and tormented by demons. The painting is adapted from a 15th century engraving by the German artist Martin Schongauer. It was purchased for an undisclosed sum from New York dealer Adam Williams, who had bought it last year from a private collector in Great Britain.

For more, here's a report by Jerome Weeks for member station KERA in Dallas.
