Soul music began in the late-1950s and never really died, but in recent years there seems to be something of a revival underway. One center of that movement is the Brooklyn, N.Y.-based Daptone Records and its most prominent voice, Sharon Jones and the Dap-Kings. The group has released three albums, including "100 Days, 100 Nights" from 2007, and its members perform throughout the U.S. and around the world. Lead singer Sharon Jones and Gabe Roth, bass player in the band and co-founder of Daptone Records, joined me during their tour stop in Washington, D.C. Editor's note: Watch a full performance by Sharon Jones and the Dap-Kings on Austin City Limits. |
