Two weddings, one very large mid-life crisis and a lot of calamity. The new novel, "That Old Cape Magic," tells the story of English professor Jack Griffin, who is caught between childhood memories and unfulfilled promise, all coming together in coastal New England.

Its author is Richard Russo, who won the Pulitzer Prize for "Empire Falls" and wrote the screenplay for the HBO series. He's also well-known for numerous other popular and critically acclaimed novels, most recently "Bridge of Sighs."

Carolyn Cochran : I enjoyed the interview and the book "That Old Cape Magic." My parents died over 20 years ago. They still live inside my head. When I worked as a library director, I sometimes told my assistant that she needed to go home and rest. The reason I gave her is that my parents would want me to tell her to do so. I added that they are more alive to me today than when they lived years ago. She accepted this and would go home.
