Roger Rosenblatt calls "Making Toast," his newly-released book, "the most important story I could write." It chronicles how after the sudden death of his 38-year-old daughter, Rosenblatt and his wife Ginny moved in with their son-in-law to help raise their three young grandchildren. The book details with humor and grace the quotidian challenges and joys of his family's reconfigured life.

Rosenblatt was a longtime NewsHour and Time Magazine essayist and is the author of 13 books and six off-Broadway plays. As he told the Newshour's Jeffrey Brown in an interview, he hopes the book will be helpful to others.

You can watch Rosenblatt read an excerpt from "Making Toast" below and find his NewsHour essays here.
