Knuffle BunnyIn "Knuffle Bunny: a Cautionary Tale," a simple trip to the laundromat gone awry provides plenty of dramatic and comedic material for a 31-page picture book. But is it enough to support a 45-minute musical? That was the challenge for author, illustrator, and now playwright, Mo Willems, whose very popular children's book has just been transformed into a stage performance at the Kennedy Center.

Willems is the author and illustrator of nearly 40 children's titles, all published since 2003. His smart and zany writing style has earned him three Caldecott Honors, two of which were
awarded to books in the (thus far) three-part Knuffle Bunny series.

"Knuffle Bunny: A Cautionary Musical" finishes its run at the Kennedy Center this weekend, but will begin a national tour in the fall.

Watch a conversation with Mo Willems and other members of the production of 'Knuffle Bunny':
