In 2007, New York-based artist Vik Muniz returned to his native country of Brazil to set up shop at the world's largest garbage dump in Rio de Janiero. His mission: To create portraits of the people who work in the dump using the very garbage they sort. The story of the artist, the workers, and their experience together is told in the new documentary Waste Land by director Lucy Walker. Walker's other documentary films include Countdown To Zero, Blindsight, and Devil's Playground. |
