In early January, a baby grand piano mysteriously appeared on a sand bar in Biscayne Bay. This week, 16-year-old aspiring art student Nicholas Harrington admitted it was his work. But before Harrington could haul it away (on order from the wildlife department), a musician had it picked up and towed to shore to give to his 10-year-old son, via The Miami Herald.

The late artist Dennis Oppenheim, who died this week in New York, leaves behind a few public art projects in process, including one in Pasadena (via the Pasadena Star-News) and another in Las Vegas (via Las Vegas Weekly).

R&B singer Gladys Horton, who founded the girl group the Marvelettes and scored the first #1 hit for Motown, died Thursday in Thousand Oaks, CA, via The New York Times.
