Ravid Kahalani, via KQED- Ravid Kahalani and his eight-piece band, Yemen Blues, brought their mix of jazz, blues, folk, and even opera -- culled from the musical traditions of America, Northa and West Africa and eastern Europe -- to the Jewish Music Festival in Berkeley, CA last week.

- A Chicagoan mourns the loss of a favorite mid-century modernist motel in his city, which was devastated both by fire and by an unfortunate style update, and reminds us that these modest buildings will actually become our landmarks in the future, "[i]f they manage to survive."
