An apple tree in eastern Germany is home to nearly 10,000 hand decorated Easter eggs, and thousands of people are flocking to see it. The tree sits on the property of Volker Kraft, who lives in Saalfeld, a small town near the border with the Czech Republic. Forty-six years ago, Kraft decided to decorate the small sapling with a few plastic eggs, but as time passed and the tree grew, the eggs became much more elaborate. Some of the eggs are painted, some have crocheted wraps, some are covered in sequins and others have carefully drilled holes that form patterns in the eggshell. Kraft has enlisted the help of his entire family in the effort. It takes them two weeks to hang all 9,800 of them. |
