From 2002 to 2009, director Jim Whitaker and a film crew chronicled the lives of five people who were directly impacted by the attack on the Twin Towers on 9/11 for a new documentary, 'Rebirth.' The film follows a high school student who, over the last ten years, has grown up without his mother, as well as a construction worker who helps to rebuild the Freedom Tower after his brother is killed in the attacks. Whitaker says he saw a common thread of letting go in all of his subjects' stories. The inspiration for the project came from Ground Zero itself, and the film also charts the rebuilding of Ground Zero through time-lapsed video of each minute of the construction progress over the years. Jeffrey Brown talked to Jim Whitaker today in our newsroom: Watch the trailer for "Rebirth" after the jump. |
