The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences announced its shortlist of 15 films in the documentary feature category for the 2012 Academy Awards. KPBS reports the complete list, which includes "If a Tree Falls" by Marshall Curry, a film featured on PBS's POV and PBS NewsHour's Economist Film Project.

Dan Huiting garnered attention for co-directing the music video for "Calgary," the first single from Bon Iver's eponymous second album. He's also known in the Twin Cities' music scene for his inventive performance videos and live concert events, which MN Original features this week:

Twenty-five years ago this month, an act was signed to protect the Columbia River Gorge in the Pacific Northwest. OPB features a gallery of impressive photographs of this 85-mile stretch.

Tim Roth and Gregory Peck's son, Stephen, talk about how Gregory Peck's portrayal of Atticus Finch in "To Kill A Mockingbird" shaped their ideas about America and fatherhood. It's part of a look back on movie history as the National Film Registry celebrates its 50th anniversary:
