The 2012 edition of the Whitney Biennial opened earlier this month at the Whitney Museum of American Art in New York. Long viewed as a window into the current state of the contemporary art world, the biennial this year includes works across all genres -- sculpture, painting, installations, photography, dance, theater, music and film -- from lesser-known and well-known artists.

Earlier Friday, I spoke to the curators of the biennial, Elisabeth Sussaman, curator of photography at the Whitney, and independent curator Jay Sanders, about the show:


The 2012 Whitney Biennial runs through May 27.
