Here are four arts and culture videos from public broadcasting partners around the nation.

On Friday, the documentary "Mariachi High" kicks off the PBS Arts Summer Festival, "a seven-part event anchored by films that highlight art, artists and performances from around the world." "Mariachi High" documents a year in the life of "Mariachi Halcon," a high-school mariachi band from Zapata, Texas. Check your local listings. Here's a web-only preview:

Idea Channel asks: Is the Web Browser Replacing the Art Gallery? "For the past 200 years, the gallery has been the home of new and cutting-edge art, a place where the art community can come together and share new ideas. In the era of the internet, however, you can view remarkable art from the comfort of your laptop. Is the web browser replacing the gallery as the best place to view amazing, cutting-edge art?"

"Sound Tracks" interviews the Carolina Chocolate Drops: "Original band members Dom Flemons and Rhiannon Giddens spoke with Quick Hits reporter Mirissa Neff backstage at the Mystic Theater in Petaluma, California. The two live and breathe African American traditional music, and once you get them started on the topic it's clear that their knowledge runs deep. The interview includes a sample of Thompson's music and a clip from a music video."

(Art Beat profiled the Carolina Chocolate Drops earlier this year.)

KCET's Artbound looks at the history of steel houses in Palm Springs, Calif.: "Steel construction is the once and future champion of residential construction in the desert. Patrick McGrew explores how the iconic pre-fabricated modular houses of architects Wexler & Harrison have come to define the architectural heritage of Palm Springs."
