In ‘Someone,’ Alice McDermott tells ‘ordinary’ woman’s tale
Alice McDermott tells the story of an ordinary woman named Marie from childhood to death in her new novel, “Someone.” The narrative centers on a woman who is shy, plain, unremarkable on the surface, but has a very active internal life. Jeffrey Brown talks to McDermott about her inspirations for the character from her own life and about the creative process in writing the novel.
