The Tuesday Cutline…a Winner!

BY Tom LeGro and Colleen Shalby  December 11, 2012 at 9:24 AM EDT

This week’s contest was a joke. Seriously, dude? A chair? We’d never seen this trick before, but many of you had. Some of you even pointed us to this video, which explains how Mr. Deepak Sharma — if that’s his real name — appears to be levitating. Anyhow, here’s the original caption for the photo taken by Daniel Berehulak for Getty Images:

“Deepak Sharma, claiming to use magic, appears to levitate, as passers by look on at Lodhi gardens on November 24, 2012 in Delhi, India.”

We received some great captions, many of which made jokes about gas, as in, it’s Sharma’s farting keeping him afloat. (NewsHour fans, we had no idea you could be so lowbrow!) Our winning Tuesday Cutline caption also made reference to bad air, but not flatulence. Congrats to Ken Alexander, who pointed to India’s air pollution. Ken, you’ll be receiving a NewsHour mug for your winning caption:

“Air ‘thick enough to support a man’ as India sets pollution record.”

Thank you all for playing along. Join us next week for another Tuesday Cutline.

About the Tuesday Cutline: Every other Tuesday, we post a photo. You compose a witty/funny/creative caption, submit it by Friday at 5 p.m. ET in the comments section or on the NewsHour’s or Art Beat’s pages. The following Tuesday we pick one winner. Everyone celebrates.
