The Tuesday Cutline…a Winner!
Last week’s Tuesday Cutline photo of George Washington looking at a portrait of George Washington was positively meta. Before we get to the winner, here’s the original caption by Nicolas Kamm/AFP/Getty Images:
“Actors dressed as US President George Washington and his wife Martha look at a portrait of the first US president by Robert Edge Pine at the National Portrait Gallery in Washington on January 19, 2013, two days before the second inauguration of the 44th President, Barack Obama.”
By George, your submissions were witty. Ranging from the first president’s insecurity that the portrait adds weight, to his disbelief that he’s in fact dead. But our favorite caption suggested that George was a bit out-of-touch with modern society. Congratulations Brendan Pottage! You’ll be receiving a NewsHour mug for your winning cutline:
“This mirror has a huge delay…”
Thank you all for playing along. Join us next week for another Tuesday Cutline.
