‘The Wire’ writer George Pelecanos explores urban life, the trauma of war in ‘The Double’

George Pelecanos talks to chief arts correspondent Jeffrey Brown about his new book “The Double.”

An award-winning crime fiction writer, George Pelecanos recently published the second installment in his new series featuring private eye Spero Lucas. “The Double” follows Lucas as he investigates cases while dealing, or not dealing, with the trauma he experienced while deployed in Iraq.

“This is a bang-up crime thriller. I’m proudly a crime writer,” Pelecanos told chief arts correspondent Jeffrey Brown during a recent visit to the studio. Pelecanos is the author of 18 novels, which all take place in Washington, D.C., metropolitan area. He is perhaps best known as a producer and writer for the HBO series “The Wire,” which landed him an Emmy nomination. Currently, he is the writer and executive producer for “Treme,” also on HBO.
