Fashion guru and Washington native Tim Gunn says that the capital city has been a “fashion desert” for decades. “For fashion, Washington’s just a place that no one’s wanted to be,” says Gunn.

But not anymore. Gunn, the fashion mentor on Bravo’s ‘Project Runway’ and chief creative officer at Liz Claiborne, says he’s looking forward to the new first couple bringing a return of style not seen in the nation’s capital since the Kennedy administration.

The Obamas, he says, know how to look great — in high style or on a budget. And he’s thrilled that Michelle Obama has become known for wearing American designers.

“We’re all eager to see what she is going to wear to both the swearing-in ceremony and the balls,” he says.
