Ralph Gomory spent much of his career at IBM, for 19 years as director of research. After reaching the mandatory retirement age of 60 for senior IBM executives, he ran the Sloan Foundation, which has funded Making Sen$e's reporting since 2007, the year Gomory retired as president.
