India-Pakistan Dispute

A Look At Post-Timeline Tensions
picture fighting in Kashmir

The conflict between India and Pakistan began August 15, 1947, when Great Britain dismantled its Indian Empire and partitioned India into two independent nations.
The Asian sub-continent was split into mostly Hindu India and mostly Muslim
Pakistan. But the process left the fate of the Kashmir province undecided, fueling
a dispute between the two newly-divided regions.

The partitioning initially caused extensive rioting as Hindus and Muslims were caught on the wrong side of newly-drawn borders. In recent years, with the two countries becoming nuclear powers, the bitter rivalry has intensified into a full-blown arms race.
