Americans spend a lot of time shopping, and most of us do not pay much attention to our surroundings while doing so. How does a store's design influence our shopping experiences? We invite you to send us your stories about how design, architecture and innovation have affected the way you shop. |

With over five and a half billion square feet of retail space in the United States today, there are those including star architect Rem Koolhaas who believe that shopping has become our primary cultural activity. In developing and designing the first of Prada's three American "epicenter" stores, he equated the importance of a store's architecture "with that of a museum or a church". We want to hear your thoughts. How do your shopping experiences affect your life? To what extent are those experiences changed by the architecture of the places you choose to shop? Do you believe it is possible to analyze and critique the culture you are immersed in? And is consumerism America's new religion? Share your stories about shopping, architecture, and how you think the two have affected your life and our society. Your submissions will be posted here shortly. |
