Deregulation

Alabama’s power industry is not deregulated. State regulators considered the idea of deregulation through the late 1990s. In November 2000, regulators voted to suspend their investigation of possible deregulation plans, saying it had not been demonstrated that altering the system was in the public’s interest. The state did leave open the possibility of revisiting the issue if and when it does appear to have a benefit.
