Deregulation

Colorado’s legislature has considered and rejected electricity deregulation. During its 2000 legislative session, the Colorado state house did not consider any legislation to open the utilities to competition. Lawmakers and regulators say they continue to monitor the situation in other states to see if deregulation offers lower rates and better service. In 1999, the legislature’s advisory panel on the electric industry voted against recommending a deregulation bill.
