Deregulation

In late 1998, the panel organized by the state legislature recommended against introducing deregulation to Idaho. Idaho’s current utility system produces significantly cheaper power than other states in the region and regulators worry that interstate demand for deregulated power may lead to higher prices in Idaho for power produced in that state. Its legislative study group also recommended the state fight any federal deregulation measures for the same reason.
